Abstract
The freshwater bivalve Corbicula fluminea was introduced in France in 1980 in the Dordogne estuary. Since that time, this species has succeeded in colonizing a large number of rivers belonging to four main drainage basins: the Garonne, the Rhone, the Loire and the Seine, as well as the French part of the Rhine basin (see Figure 2). Canals have played an important role in the spreading of Corbicula, as was the case for Dreissena polymorpha in the 19th century.
